Ways to Step Off a Weight Plateau

They’re not fun. Just when you think things are going alright, you’re losing weight, some habit, food, emotion, etc. returns and your weight plateaus. Or perhaps increases. Either way, both are frustrating. What can also be frustrating is if maybe you continue to lose weight, but then wonder why or if ‘all this’ is something you’re going to have to keep up.

That said, when it comes to a weight plateau, there are many ways you can identify the issue, address it, or maybe even find some way around it:

1) Intermittent fasting- this is where you go about 12-15 hours between dinner and breakfast, giving your body time to chill, digest, and get nutrients to where they need. This also allows your body to get hungry again, especially too between those 3-4 hours after each meal, as these are what I would consider the basics to give your body a reset.

2) Something different- switch up your gym routine, your classes, your general schedule, or maybe go on a hike. In other words, try something new. Our brain really likes new experiences, and in this excitement/ anticipation, our body does too! Especially something active can surprise the body and may be just what you need.

3) Quality sleep- the first four hours of sleep are pretty important, but so are the rest of the hours! It’s great when our body experiences a few cycles, and best you can, to stay in bed this whole time. If you find yourself going to the bathroom, or even just wanting to get out of bed, make sure it’s dark (can have a nightlight), as any sort of stimulation (e.g. screens, light) may tell the body that it truly is time to wake up (and melatonin, our body’s sleep hormone, is our most potent endogenous antioxidant and great for weight loss!).

You may have identified a few more things on your list per se, as while these are part of the basics, everyone has what originally helped them lose weight. In fact, see what worked for you in the past, whether it be research, a new activity, not thinking much about it(aka gratitude), or maybe adding in some foods you used to love. Whatever it may be, these are all things I can help with too! Make sure you book your call so we can chat further.
