MEET DR. SERENA

Dr. Serena Goldstein is a Naturopathic Doctor who graduated from National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR. Currently in practice in Florida, she has also authored and contributed to numerous articles, spoken at professional conferences, lectured around the community (including virtual), and acted as a consultant to various health-related products.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, she completed 5 years Naturopathic school where the first two years are more conventional medicine based, then the next 2-3 years are all the “-ologies”, nutrition, homeopathy, IV therapy, physical medicine, pharmacology, botanical medicine, and minor surgery so it’s more tools in our toolbox to really share what your options may be for care.

She received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Pre-med with a minor in Biology from the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University where she graduated Cum Laude with honors. Further, she passed and defended her thesis “Why States Should License Naturopathic Medicine”, which was partly published on the New York Association of Naturopathic Physician’s website, as well as utilized as evidence as to the importance of bring Naturopathic medicine to everyone.

Her passion for medicine began in high school when in going through a rough time after a gymnastics injury, a psychologist provided answers and healing in her life. Dr. Serena was introduced to Naturopathic medicine and knew then - especially with her background of healthy eating & overall lifestyle - that this was the profession for her.

WHEN HORMONE & WEIGHT ISSUES ARISE..

They are frustrating, not fun, and between midol, Pro-activ, and all the different diets, the journey to finally feel good in one’s skin can be confusing, sometimes at best. Dr. Serena went through her own tumultuous times especially in her teens and 20’s when no diet seemed quite right, and even though she was also ‘pretty healthy’, it always came down to those last few pounds.

In practice, Dr. Serena loves to combine her love of psychology in helping her patients get to where they would like to be both weight & hormone-wise, because by this time they too know there’s ‘no magic pill.’ There’s a lot of good ‘stuff’, but here is where we get to talk about individualized care, listening to one’s body, what to expect, all communicated in a light-hearted, empowering manner so her patients feel good about wherever they are at.

LONG-TERM HEALING

Dr. Serena has had her practice in New York City, San Francisco, CA, and now South Florida. During this time, her networking brought her to lecture in the community at place such as the American Cancer Society, and has spoken about this very topic along with a multitude of concerns (e.g. weight, sleep, energy/ fatigue) on NYU Sirius XM Doctor Radio, and on local TV and radio stations.

Throughout this time she noticed, in states that also tend to have ambitious, high-performing-type quality, and keen interest in being their own patient advocate, that many questions as to why a concern is present still lingered.

Health can be both subjective and objective, yet the issue becomes when you feel something is off or can be done differently and unsure of where to turn even though from the outside it can look ‘fine.’

Dr. Serena understands this quite well, as after she injured her elbow at age 15, a few days into ‘not feeling herself’, she went to the New York Public Library and began reading Jung, Erikson, and Freud to dive deeper into finding an answer. By the end of sophomore year, she had shelves of psychology books, but still fraught for both answers and deeper healing. She was the one who asked for a therapist upon realizing she needed another set of eyes to help her both sort through what she had learned on her own, and to finally find a solution for moving forward.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

Now, Dr. Serena helps bring awareness to her patient’s concerns not just through bloodwork and any other specialized tests, but often by thought-provoking questions she gives as homework, as well as her extensive knowledge of many medicines, while honoring natural first, pharmaceutical if need be, but most importantly- you have the final say.
